alright my hommies know whats good but for the rest of you enthusiests imma show you some NINTENDOCORE

1. Iamerror
Today I'm going to talk about a genre that neeeds some more coverage. Everytime you've ever played a video game there was usually some cool head-boppin chune that usually came with it, right? Today I'm gonna talk about NINTENDOCORE. Nintendocore is electronically produced music that uses samples from video games, and is often times influenced by metal song structures.

In grade 9 my friend Sam was like 'yo check out this dude he's pretty sick'. So I did and here I am 5 dreadful years later talking about IAMERROR.

Iamerror lasted from 2006-2009 which was the conglomeration of a guitarist, producer, and vocalist. They gave birth to their album Trout Yogurt which spurned them to tour across the U.S. Iamerror is now dissolved into two group: Monomate and Apparatus. These two friends decided to part ways to lead their own interests. However, before doing so they left the world with the most heart pounding, sentimental, nostalgic, mind numbing music known to man kind.

Check their bio, music and their new pages out at :
https://www.facebook.com/monomatemusic
https://soundcloud.com/monomate
https://www.facebook.com/pages/apparatus/128053033902153

reminds me of: super smash broz, legend of zelda, sonic, kirby, Gorgoroth, Old skool Underoath

2. Insert Disc

Not a lot is known about Insert Disc because he likes to keep a low profile. I am impressed by him because on his last .fm page he says:

“Named changed to Dr. Drank.”
- Heyzeus

Never commercialize yourself and keep the trill shit.

Band Members: Heyzeus

Influences: Passion
Sounds Like: a Wind Waker recital.

What a whimsical dude...anyways. If you are looking for some more nintendocore this manz in the way to go.This guy LOVES bass drum pedals, a lot. Sometimes his music seems like it doesn't make sense but you have to get past the weird syncopation and the random blast beats you'll become one with the sound.~~~~~~

reminds me of: my childhood and early adolescence, oh, and happy hardcore

3. 100DEADRABBITS

100DEADRABBITS is from Orange County, California where the skies are blue and the babes and peachy. They say that they are video game influenced, electronic murder music and consists of Robert Robinson, Erick Lopez, Eduardo Ruelas, Steve Lamas, Emilio Pacheco and Will Eudave. I like these guys because they are a bit less non-stop/ metal than Iamerror and Insert Disc but they definitely still have their own groove to them.

reminds me of: children of bodom, the OC, Borgore, Diamond Kid, Breathe Carolina, 1800Zombie

why Sly Why?

Sly Why defines themselves as a hip/hop/rap, jazz, progressive and electronic group based in Toronto. Members include: Victor Xu - MC/Keys., Connor Chan - MC/Guitar, Cam Fraser - Bass
Austin Hargreaves - Drums/Sample. Their 7 track album entitled 'When the Love Song Happened and You Didn't Know it Did showcases these musicians talents across the field. It is refreshing to hear a live band playing with so many samples while keeping the old tradition alive. They played at Sydicate Fest and have played with the likes of Bulletproof Tiger.

If you guys like: Portishead, UNKLE, Medeski, Martin, and Wood, XXYYXX you gotta check these new champs out.

POLARIS

Today at midnight Mr. Vlad Polaris dropped his new e.p, BRIGHT EYES. Polaris is a Toronto based producer who specializes at dropping drum and bass and doobstep all over peoples faces. This up and comer has been spinning at raves for years now, and can be seen playing low key shows around Toronto. Check out DubHub Toronto, as he is consistently playing there. His new EP is full of bright sounds, pounding drums, and high frequencies.

Ive been trill but Im back with BOB GRAVITY

OKAY so I have only one final exam left so I have no more excuses for my inactivity. Today's first post will be on Bob Gravity. A friend of mine from New York introduced me to his friend's work and it is chillingly good. Bob Toole, aka Bob Gravity is a thumpin' house dj and producer. Although he isn't very well established yet this kid has talent and the drive to succeed. Also he kinda looks like Porter Robinson.

Reminds me of: Lee Walker, Klepto, Seth Troxler

MoTez

Motez is hands down the slickest producer I've heard in a while. Motez definitely has an impressive selection of music samples in his productions- stellar vocalists, chill head bobbing bass line/keyboard combos, and drums that don't stop. Motez was born in Baghdad but as of late he has been in Australia. I usually play the music of the person I am writing about while writing the blog posts and
his music is making my neck hurt from all the head bobbing...can't resist it. DEFINITELY gotta give this fellow a listen as he's gonna be riding the gravy train for years to come. Peace~

reminds me of: Maya Jane Coles, Eyerer and Namito, Simian Mobile Disco, Blawan

damn son its Outerspacerz??

This group that I'm going to talk about today has a pretty interesting history. Two of the members of Toronto electro/hip-hop/grime group Outerspacerz are from the progressive metal band Speak of the Devil. Back in highschool these dudes shredded like no other in this jam packed, tiny ass venue called the Siesta Nouveux. Outerspacerz has only one thing on their agenda, to make y'all dance. Make sure you guys reach all their bandcamp, where you can set the price on their brand new EP!

These guy's remind me of Benny Benassi, LMFAO, Kavinsky, Die Antwoord

$$$$$$$$JILLIONAIRE$$$$$$$$$$$$

THIS WEEKEND WAS NUTS on Friday I went to Haus for the firs time. Haus is located at 364 Richmond st and its a BUMPIN venue. I saw Jillionaire from Major Lazer throw down some heavy bass/grime/reggae/trap and it was heavy. Jillion consists of Yung Poolside, Trini Chris,Lil Treetops
and The Black Mick Jagger. These guys are djs and producers, not rappers. Apparently these guys love turtle shells and whalebones, victorian finery, and the endangered wild life of Papa New Guinea. Jillionaire replaced former Major Lazer's co-founder, Switch.

'Influences listed were: Don't Stand So Close To Me. Water No Get Enemy. Too Young To Soca. Mike Skinner. A Kilo Is A Thousand Grams. Who's the best MC, Biggie, Jay-Z or Nas? this guy is UPPERMOST

Hey guys the next post for today shall be for funk master UPPERMOST. Behdad Nejatbakhshe is the French mastermind that is known as Uppermost. This man is is freaking genius. He quotes that Daft Punk and Burial are two of his most and you can clearly hear it in his work. If someone asked me to think of the best example of Electro- Funk, this dude is the one you want to listen to. He is relatively well known within his sphere of influence but this guy is young and definitely deserves more coverage. Nintendon't showed me Uppermost and since then I have been crankin' out his chunes every week! A beatport champion, entrepreneur, and master advertiser, Uppermost;s talents speak for himself.

Reminds me of : Nujabes, Dalian, Justice, Daft Punk,  Breakbot

TORONTO EDM Talent to keep an ;) out for~

For this post I want to specialize a little bit, I want to list a couple DJs and Producers I have personally met or kept an eye out for. These guys are all young but work tirelessly promoting themselves and their ambitions.

1. Zach James

I met this guy two years ago and we instantly shared our love of EDM. This kid is young but he's got creativity and the willingness to succeed. Zach James is a producer and dj that specializes in Electro House, Trap, Dirty Dutch, Progressive House, Tech House & Dubstep mixes and is always in the process of making new beats in his home studio. I've had the pleasure of spinning with Zach myself so I know that he embodies a solid air of professionalism. Always working hard to create his dreams I'm sure you'll hear Zach James in the near future.

Reminds me of: Zedd, Porter Robinson, Laidback Luke, Mord Fustang

Check his stuff out at:

2. Krahlah (Kyle Lewis)

I've never seen Krahlah play but I know that he djs for DUB HUB Toronto as well as Nocturne. Mr Krahlah plays dirty dubstep, drum and bass, and electro. Krahlah pleases the crowd with his whopping hits and his steezy drops and knows how to make a mean mix. Check this upandcomer out at a show or check his commanding internet presence.

Reminds me of: Excision, Modestep, Camo and Krooked, Killabits, 16bit, SubFocus

genres: dubstep, drum and bass, glitch

3. HugsnotDrugs

When I first met HugsnotDrugs I found myself under the Broadview Bridge at a FreeRave these guys threw. As a young teenager I was baffled to be surrounded by all the ravers, candy, lights, fire, and of course, the EDM. HugsnotDrugs was founded primarily by Christian Poulsen and Andrew DeAmatto. Hugsnotdrugs has come up with some pretty awesome remixes, like Alice in Wonderland, Black Friday and Crystal Castle reworks. Hugsnotdrugs has a huge presence within the Toronto Underground Music scene, constantly throwing events and truly showing what it means to put in some elbow grease and what it means to have your efforts pay off. These guys are all about ethical partying! Looking forward to what they have in store for the world in the future, big up!

Known formerly as DJ Smunchy, Nintendon't is a good friend of mine that loves to just have a good time. For the past few years Nintendon't has always been mixing, producing, performing, and teaching those around him. In fact, he was the one who helped me get my CDJs and mixer. Nintendon't always as a mischievous grin on his face, no doubt plotting and scheming how he's gonna make you dance. Looking forward to his future endeavors as a dj, producer, manager, sound technician and super sloth, make sure you keep track of this party animal.

The man that will make you melt this winter: Patrick Watson

Monsieur Patrick Watson is a fantastic musician from Montreal. This man has the most soothing, subtle voice in the biz and has many a time drifted me off to sleep. No one quite has the same quality of voice as he does. Patrick loves to collaborate with other indie musicians and uses a broad range of instruments to convey his messages. Introduced to me by a middle school friend when I was grade 9, Patrick Watson remains to me one of my favourite vocalists today. My favourite song by him to this date is 'Wooden Arms'.
